One week 'til school starts! My younger children keep asking, "When are we gonna do school?" I hope I never ruin that for them.
Claire's uniforms are all washed and hung. Thank goodness they soften up in the wash - talk about stiff and starchy! We have bags and bags of school supplies ready to be transported for Claire's benefit. We are scheduling a manicure for her next week. She has a salon gift card she wants to use. It's all very exciting. I hope she makes great friends this year and learns a lot.
Ethan, Blythe and Owen have a great year ahead of them. Our weeks will look something like this:
Monday - We have registered for a Classical Conversations community this year. They will be tutored in Bible, History, Science, Grammar, Math, Music, Art and Latin on Mondays. The rest of the week I will help them with memory work and teach them Phonics and Math. (Claire's dance class at night)
Tuesdays - Bible, Memory, Math (big kids), Math (Owen), Phonics and Reading with Mama. (Blythe's dance class at night)
Wednesdays - Blythe and Owen will be at Bible Study Fellowship with my stepmother. Ethan and I will spend extra time reading together. (Church at night)
Thursdays - My parents own the Young Chef's Academy in town. The kids will take a Kindercooks class there every Thursday. They'll learn their letters, read stories and cook something new every week - and Evelyn and I get to go have coffee with my sister. Yeah!
Fridays - Same as Tuesdays, followed by complete exhaustion at the end of it!
Well, probably way more information than you wanted or needed, but it helped me sort it out in my head anyway. About this month's music...
Selections from Schoolhouse Rock - I guess T.V. is not all bad. Schoolhouse Rock is one of my favorite memories from childhood. I watched their cartoons every Saturday and learned a little bit in the process. Some of the songs are originals and others are remakes from an album done in the early 90s. I just LOVE Blind Melon's "Three Is A Magic Number".
"We're Going To Be Friends" by the White Stripes - This is the opening song from Napoleon Dynamite. It's one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard. Jack White is the lead singer. Have you heard his duet with Alicia Keyes on the latest James Bond film? It rocks!
"Istanbul" and "E Eats Everything" by They Might Be Giants - Groovy guys. I still love their Album Flood from 1989. They're an alternative band that also plays great children's music.
Miscellaneous - Good stuff by a variety of artists, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Chuck Berry, John Mayer, 10,000 Maniacs and The Jackson Five.
I'm so jazzed about this school year. For the first time ever, all the responsibility won't be on my shoulders. For the first time ever, I don't have that "completely overwhelmed" feeling. I think I just might be able educate my children this year. "The future's so bright,"...well, you know.
